SY/T 0442-2018 is the current technical standard for fusion bonded epoxy powder internal anti-corrosion coating of steel pipelines, replacing the 2010 version. It is applicable to the internal anti-corrosion design, construction, and acceptance of oil, natural gas, oil and gas field production water, and water supply and drainage steel pipelines with operating temperatures not exceeding 80 ℃.

Scope of application and updates of standards
SY/T 0442-2018 is the current technical standard for fusion bonded epoxy powder internal anti-corrosion coating of steel pipelines, replacing the 2010 version. It is applicable to the internal anti-corrosion design, construction, and acceptance of oil, natural gas, oil and gas field production water, and water supply and drainage steel pipelines with operating temperatures not exceeding 80 ℃. This standard is specifically aimed at long-distance pipelines, emphasizing the anti-corrosion performance requirements in complex environments such as onshore, underwater, extremely cold or high-temperature areas, and the safety of pipelines under corrosive media and long-term exposure. Applicability evaluation is required when the operating temperature exceeds 80 ℃.
Technical requirements for anti-corrosion coating
The standard stipulates that the anti-corrosion layer adopts a one-time film-forming epoxy powder coating structure, and the thickness needs to be selected according to factors such as the corrosiveness of the medium, temperature, and pressure. Small thicknesses need to meet specific table requirements (such as ≥ 300 μ m). The material needs to meet corrosion resistance, adhesion, and mechanical strength indicators. During the construction process, the heating temperature (such as 180-250 ℃) and curing time need to be precisely controlled, and the coating should be uniformly fused. In addition, the standard requires that the composition of epoxy powder strictly comply with performance indicators to avoid defects such as pinholes.
Quality Control and Testing Methods
The anti-corrosion coating needs to be evaluated through multiple key indicators such as thickness testing (magnetic thickness gauge), adhesion testing (grid method or drawing method), pinhole rate testing (electric spark leak detector), etc. The standard clearly requires the coating to be continuous and dense, without peeling or bubbles, and proposes targeted testing frequencies for different engineering scenarios. For example, a long-distance natural gas pipeline project has verified the effectiveness of the standard in improving anti-corrosion performance by strictly following the standard and extending the pipeline time by nearly double.
Association with other anti-corrosion technologies
SY/T 0442 mainly targets internal anti-corrosion coatings, while other standards such as 3PE anti-corrosion (external anti-corrosion coating technology) (such as SY/T 0413) are used for external pipeline protection. In practical engineering, the inner epoxy powder coating is often combined with the outer 3PE structure to form a composite anti-corrosion system, further enhancing the overall corrosion resistance. For example, pipelines with 3PE anti-corrosion coating combined with fusion bonded epoxy powder internal coating are widely used in the field of oil and gas transportation, taking into account both internal and external anti-corrosion requirements.
