1、 Standards and definitions
Core standard: PSL1 steel grade spiral seam steel pipe follows API 5L (American Petroleum Institute Pipeline Pipe Standard), which belongs to the basic specification level and is suitable for fluid transportation pipeline systems under general working conditions.
Classification: In the API 5L standard, PSL1 and PSL2 are two levels. PSL1 has lower requirements for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and testing, but still needs to meet the basic strength and toughness standards.
2、 Material and Chemical Composition
Common steel grades:
L245 (low yield strength 245 MPa)
L290 (low yield strength 290 MPa)
L360 (low yield strength of 360 MPa).
Chemical composition control:
Sulfur (S) ≤ 0.030%, phosphorus (P) ≤ 0.040%, to reduce the risk of cold brittleness and hot cracking.
Adopting low-alloy steel design to optimize welding performance and corrosion resistance.
3、 Production process and quality control
Forming and Welding
Spiral forming: Spiral forming is achieved by hot-rolled steel strip coils, using double-sided submerged arc welding (SAW) or high-frequency welding (HFW) processes, with the weld seam in a spiral shape.
Efficiency advantage: Suitable for the production of large-diameter (usually Φ 219- Φ 3620 mm) and long-distance pipelines, with low cost and flexible specifications.
Testing requirements
Non destructive testing: The weld seam needs to undergo ultrasonic (UT) or X-ray sampling inspection, and there should be no defects such as pores or cracks.
Dimensional accuracy: Outer diameter error ≤ ± 1%, wall thickness deviation ≤ -5%~+10%.
