GB/T18593 is the Chinese national standard "Anti corrosion Coating of Fusion Bonded Epoxy Powder Coatings", with the current version being GB/T18593-2010, replacing the 2001 version. This standard specifies the material requirements, process specifications, and coating performance testing methods for anti-corrosion coating of metal materials such as steel using melt bonded epoxy powder coatings. It is applicable to anti-corrosion scenarios such as buried pipelines, process pipelines, and structural components, but does not include decorative coatings.

Materials and processes of anti-corrosion steel pipes
According to the standard, anti-corrosion steel pipes use epoxy resin as the main film-forming material, and add curing agents, pigments, and fillers to make powder coatings. The coating process includes substrate surface treatment (such as sandblasting to Sa2.5 level), preheating (180-250 ℃), electrostatic spraying of epoxy powder, and forming a continuous coating through melting and solidification. The coating thickness is classified according to the application, for example, for buried pipelines (Class 1) with a small thickness of 150 μ m, and for steel reinforcement protection (Class 2), it needs to reach 130 μ m.
Coating performance requirements and testing
The standard proposes strict indicators for coating performance:
Physical properties: including wear resistance (≤ 100mg, GB/T1768), impact resistance (≥ 30J, Class 3 coatings must pass -30 ℃ low-temperature impact testing), and adhesion (≥ 30MPa).
Corrosion resistance: It needs to pass the salt spray test (no foaming for ≥ 1000 hours) and immersion in chemical media (such as 10% HCl, 5% NaOH, etc. for 30 days without abnormalities).
Electrochemical performance: The second type of coating requires an electrical strength of ≥ 30kV/mm and a volume resistivity of ≥ 1 × 10 ¹³ Ω· m.
Application Fields and Scenarios
GB/T18593 anti-corrosion steel pipes are widely used in:
Oil and gas transportation: The outer wall of buried pipelines and the inner wall of oil/gas/seawater pipelines are corrosion-resistant and resistant to soil and medium corrosion.
Chemical equipment: such as lined plastic pipes used in corrosive media environments, and insulated wear-resistant lined pipes used in high-temperature particulate matter conditions (such as catalytic cracking flue gas pipelines).
Municipal engineering: water supply and sewage treatment pipelines, in compliance with GB9686 food contact safety requirements.
Production standards and certification
Production enterprises are required to implement the ISO9001 quality management system and obtain certifications such as APISpec5L and SY/T0315. Typical process parameters include powder curing time (≤ 3 minutes, 200 ℃) and gelation time (≤ 30 seconds). Finished products should be labeled with coating type, thickness, and execution standards, and stored in a way that avoids mechanical damage and humid environments.
